Doves @ the Brixton Academy
The Royal Society
- Climate change and extinction, and
- The Two Cultures
Lectures are free, open to the public and places are allocated on a first-come first-served basis. Both lectures have been absolutely fascinating and a real eye opening experience to someone, like me, whose knowledge of the sciences is quite limited. The quality of the speakers is outstanding, and that of the delegates as well: Richard Dawking attended the first lecture and both the directors of the Natural History Museum and Science Museum attended the second.
A list of upcoming events is availalble on its website, and past lectures can be watched here.

Sunday, sweet Sunday...
I went shopping yesterday to get the materials. First stop, VV Rouleaux in Marlebone. It's this gorgeous ribbon shop where any woman (or man with a creative streak) could spend hours looking at all the different kinds of ribbon that exist, feathers, material flowers, bits and pieces... Then I went to the haberdashery department in John Lewis where I bought some really nice Amy Butler material, buttons, etc., and a piece of material from the upholstery department that would be magically turned into my tablecloth 24 hours later (it cost me a tenner - bargain).
This one has special sewing engineering on the back to aviod it from folding forward all the time.
What can I say? Fun fun FUN! I really should try to do more things creative...

Bad Film Club
Every month, the Barbican hire Nicko and Joe to screen a truly awful film and voice-over it from beginning to end. This month, the lucky film was... Leprechaun 5 - or, as it's official title reads: Leprechaun in the Hood.
http://www.barbican.org.uk/film/event-detail.asp?ID=8778
With catchy lines like "A lot of time has come and passed. But still I see you're a big fat ass", or my favourite, the shocking, and yet hilarious "Come closer, come closer, my fresh young lass. Let me take a look at you, before I (hoo!) tap your ass", the film definitely lived up to its expectations and tears were coming down our face with laughter.
There are other 2 reasons why I enjoy Bad Film Club so much. Firstly, sweets (normally inspired by the film that is projected) are distributed around the audience, and there's always cake! And secondly, the fantastic mix of people who every month go to the Barbican religiously to see Nicko and Joe in action. From classic City-types, to complete geeks, from posh "blond" skinny girls, to the brilliantly bohemian Hoxton types.
Next month is the Wicker Man, which I'm not particularly keen on watching, but the one in May has Lindsay Lohan - Roll on!
